How to Figure Out Why Your Query Is Taking Foreeeevvvvveerrrrrrr…IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS!
Presented by Kaley Crum
ABC Financial Services
Abstract:
Anyone who’s familiar with tuning SQL knows that you need to get the execution plan for a query. But once you’ve got an execution plan, what do you do with it? Everyone understands that an execution plan is important for diagnosing, but almost no one knows how to answer questions like “which step in the execution plan is taking the longest?” “Which hardware component (CPU, Memory, Disk) is causing my query’s bottleneck?” “Is my parallel query making good use of its resources, or are they being wasted?” If you have the Oracle Tuning and Diagnostic Pack license for your database and 30 seconds, you can find the answer to these questions–and more!
Upgrading to Oracle Database 19c
Presented by Roy Swonger
Oracle
Abstract:
Oracle Database 19c is the long-term support release for the Oracle Database 12c and Oracle Database 18c family, and many customers are actively planning their upgrades. This session from the Oracle Database Upgrade development team gives you the inside scoop on how upgrade has evolved (especially if your last upgrade was to 11.2.0.4). Learn what to plan for; get tips, tricks, and insights about upgrade performance tweaks; hear customer experiences; and learn about important parameter and behavior changes as you approach Oracle Database 19c.
Unduly Forgotten Performance-Tuning Hero: PL/SQL Hierarchical Profiler
Presented by Michael Rosenblum
Dulcian, Inc.
Abstract:
A number of polls taken during various PL/SQL-related presentations paint a very strange picture: one of the most-critical FREE server-side performance-tuning tools is almost totally unknown! If you ask basic questions such as, “How much time is spent on routine A?” or “How often is function B called?” most developers would start to hand-code their own solutions instead of utilizing the Oracle PL/SQL hierarchical profiler (HProf). This is not because the provided functionality is disliked, but the fact is that most developers are simply not aware of its existence. This session is an attempt to alter this trend and re-introduce HProf to a wider audience.
How To Prove The Problem Is Not The Database Using ASH Data
Presented by Craig Shallahamer
OraPub
Abstract:
Imagine being able to prove a performance problem is not a database issue. There are few ways to infer the problem resides elsewhere, but it’s difficult for people to believe you. However, by creatively using ASH data and the idle wait event “SQL*Net message from client” we can do this.
In this presentation, I will show you exactly how to do this. I’ll start with a quick ASH introduction, then dive into Oracle’s time model, what to look for and how to look for it and finally how to interpret the results.
You will learn how to look into the unseen world Oracle performance ASH analysis.
Best Practices for the most impact-full Oracle Database 19c Features
Presented by Markus Michalewicz
Oracle
Abstract:
This session answers the question, “What’s new in Oracle Database 19c?” in a slightly different way: by providing best practices and a deep dive into the most impactful high availability (HA), scalability, and lifecycle management features in Oracle Database 12c, 18c and 19c, including a short roadmap of features yet to come in the next generation Oracle Database. Learn how to automatically benefit from “smart” features and how to facilitate optional features in the Oracle Database, Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) and (Active) Data Guard. Leave this session with a bag full of tips and tricks on how to prepare for and master the changes that come with some of the most beneficial features of them all on-premises, on Exadata Database Machines or in the cloud.

Powerful: Practical Machine Learning In The Hands Of The DBA
Presented by Craig Shallahamer
Orapub
Abstract:
Powerful Machine Learning (ML) is upon us. As Oracle DBAs, it is now our turn to leverage ML, enabling us to do things never before possible.
But it’s not that simple.
So, in this presentation I’m going to introduce you to the world of ML from a DBA perspective. This includes understanding what ML is, why use it and why now. I will lead you through two use cases, each using a different ML algorithm. The first at a high level and the second at a detailed level.
Our future is not AWR or even ASH analysis! Now is the time for Oracle DBAs to step into the world of ML, because it is powerful, practical and enables us to do things we have never been able to do before.
