Esterline Technologies is made up of 13,000 employees living in 19 countries, working in 10 different time zones, speaking eight standard languages and operating over 100 legal entities. Its primary product offering includes parts for the aerospace industry and on occasion, parts for nuclear submarines.
Its massive size, various entities, global business and compliance-heavy customer base makes Esterline Technologies a difficult company to transform into one HR. At the same time, all these attributes exhibit the essential need for one HR.
A couple of years ago, Esterline Technologies’ Senior Director of HR Operations, Shahbaz Alibaig, led the successful transition from PeopleSoft to HCM Cloud. His company currently utilizes five HCM modules and they hope to implement two more modules in the next year.
To help others looking to make the transition to HCM Cloud, Shahbaz describes his team’s “5S Playbook” and best practices for implementation in his presentation “Easterline Technology Goes Where They Have Never Gone Before” at Oracle Open World.:
5S Playbook
- Simplify – Follow the golden rule of Keep It Simple Stupid (K.I.S.S.)
- Standardize – Harmonize key processes.
- Systemize – Elevate HR by systemizing key repeatable tasks.
- Structure – Put structure in place to create alignment and accountability.
- Support – Create a global and regional support network.
Best Practices
- Know your objectives and set realistic expectations early
- Watch scope creep
- Follow a governance model
- Focus on change management
- Communicate
- Manage detractors
