When Wagstaff, Inc. prepared for a full Oracle HCM Cloud implementation, goal-setting was only one piece of the process. Wagstaff thoroughly evaluated what existing Human Resource (HR) processes were worth keeping aware that automating bad processes would result in bad automated processes.
A Model to Evaluate and Improve HR Processes
To avoid automating unnecessary or unproductive processes, Wagstaff adopted a continuous improvement approach to work through its existing HR processes. Beginning with core processes congruent with what their Oracle product offered, Wagstaff applied a five-step process to ask these critical questions of their HR processes:
- Identify: What HR processes are we currently doing? How and why are we doing them?
- Evaluate: How well is the identified process working? What does good or best practice look like for this process? How does our process compare to these standards?
- Plan: If our current processes work within the Oracle environment, what can we do better? If they don’t work within the Oracle system, what are we going to do about it?
- Execute: What processes are important and urgent to our organization? The important and urgent processes became Wagstaff’s core targets to be tackled first.
- Repeat! Through Wagstaff’s strategy of continuous improvement, this approach was repeated.
