JD Edwards Orchestrator doesn’t just support scheduled or manual processes—it can also respond to real-time events. Whether triggered by a threshold being reached, a user action, or input from an external system, event-driven automation helps organizations respond more quickly to what’s happening in their business.
What Is Event-Driven Automation?
Event-driven automation means that a process is initiated by a specific condition or trigger, rather than on a set schedule. In JD Edwards, these events can originate from inside the system or from outside sources such as IoT devices or integrated applications.
Examples of events include:
- A sales order with a line item at zero price
- A temperature sensor reporting abnormal readings
- A Watchlist threshold being crossed
- An update from a CRM system or cloud application
When an event occurs, it can kick off a predefined orchestration to take action automatically.
How Orchestrator Handles Events
To enable event-driven processing, Orchestrator can be configured to:
- Monitor Watchlists for changes that meet specific criteria
- Respond to IoT or sensor data coming in through the AIS Server
- Accept REST API calls from external systems
- Be triggered by EnterpriseOne form extensions or custom applications
Each of these methods can initiate orchestrations that perform tasks such as sending alerts, creating records, or updating data in JDE.
Common Use Cases
- Inventory Alerts: When stock levels drop below a set threshold, automatically notify purchasing or create a requisition.
- Credit Limit Enforcement: Alert finance when a customer’s credit limit is exceeded, before an order is processed.
- Equipment Downtime Response: When a machine reports a fault, generate a maintenance work order in JDE.
Why It Matters
Event-driven automation reduces lag time between when something happens and when action is taken. It eliminates the need for users to constantly monitor dashboards or reports, allowing JD Edwards to “listen” and react in real time.
This not only improves efficiency but also ensures that issues are addressed proactively rather than after the fact.
