In this episode of PeopleSoft Talk, Willie Suh talks to Marc about the enhancements made in PeopleTools 8.57. Of the many enhancements made, most are centered around analytics, developers, and end-users. Some of the enhancements discussed are below, but for more information, check out the full episode below.
Drop Zones
In PeopleTools 8.57, the concept of a Drop Zone has been introduced. The applications know, from working with our customers, how the customer wants to change or modify a delivery page. This information can be delivered to Drop Zones. The Drop Zone is part of the page definition that PeopleSoft delivers. Now, the customer can build anything that they want. Drop Zones apply to Fluid pages, but Willie said that they’d be looking at similar types of Drop Zone capabilities in future releases for Classic pages. In the interview, Willie tells Marc that the applications teams are going to start delivering applications with these Drop Zones configured in early 2019. He also talks about how developers are the intended users of Drop Zones.
Event Mapping
A concept called event mapping was introduced in PeopleTools 8.55 and has been enhanced in PeopleTools 8.57. The idea came from Idea Space. When a customer is looking at a delivered PeopleCode object in Application Designer, they’ll get an indicator to show that this PeopleCode object has an event map associated with it. It will give you that association, and then you can double-click to drill down, and it’ll take you directly to the app class where they have their custom code.
Fluid Page Preview
The Fluid Page Preview is another enhancement that was made in PeopleTools 8.57. Enhancements have also been made to the Application Designer to provide a Fluid preview mode. It will open up a browser and give you a rendering of what that Fluid page will look like. It will render the HTML in the browser, so it looks very close to what end users will see. Also, the contextual page properties within the Application Designer has been improved. The contextual page properties window leverages the existing Application Designer, but instead of having to drill in and modify the page properties, it now shows that in a right-frame window.
Personalized Analytics
Personalized Analytic Notifications have also been introduced in 8.57. This enables end-users to get notified on specific business events without having to constantly monitor the system. This is set up by the end-user.
