Disruption and transformation are shaking up the workforce and creating an age of a digital ERP. Digital transformation is happening fast, and JD Edwards has to participate in it. In order to keep up with the pulse of your business and automate some of your processes, several features have been developed within JD Edwards.
AJ Schifano, Product Manager, and Michael Tebben, Development Manager, from Oracle spoke at INFOCUS 18 about these features within JD Edwards, specifically Orchestrator, that can help organizations move toward this autonomous shift.
Orchestrator is one JD Edwards feature that has recently been delivered to help automate some business functions within an organization. It is an extension off JD Edwards applications, not the business functions or data. So, if you can use the applications, you can use Orchestrator. The idea is that Business Analysts can easily create these Orchestrations, so there’s no need to get a Developer involved. Simply set up the Orchestration and let the machines do the work.
The same Alert, Analyze, Act paradigm that humans use has been recreated as Detect, Decide, Do for systems like Orchestrator. Letting the machines detect the problem, decide what to do about it, and then do the action will drastically reduce the workload of tedious actions for humans.
Part of reducing that workload and automating tasks is utilizing the microservices within Orchestrator. These microservices are the dialogue between JD Edwards and other external systems. They are verb-based services like “Alert me when inventory is low” or “Create a sales order.” These simple tasks can be automated and give more time back to employees to focus on creative, problem-solving tasks instead.
Orchestrations can be used in five different usage patterns: Internet of Things, User Interface, Process Simplification, Integration or Autonomous ERP. For examples and demonstrations of how each usage pattern can be utilized within an organization, check out the full presentation below.
