QXW 2019: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Product Update

Quest Experience Week

As part of Quest Experience Week (QXW) 2019, Oracle’s own Bob Monahan, Vice President of Product Management, and Neil Pugh, Senior Director of Product Management, provided a JD Edwards EnterpriseOne product update – an overview of new product innovation and enhancements that are delivered in the latest JD Edwards EnterpriseOne releases.

Continuous innovation, a concept that was introduced with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2, is taking place at JD Edwards. Are you keeping up with digital transformation in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne? With so many upgrades and improvements, you may not have heard about all the features that can make your work easier and more effective. JD Edwards is investing in four core areas, including digital transformation, user experience, ERP, and operational simplification.

The JD Edwards team prioritizes digital success through process automation, user interfaces, real-time machine-to-machine data, cloud integration, third party integrations, and emerging technologies.

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Product Update

Investment Area No. 1: Digital Success

The most recent major updates to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne include:

  • A redesigned EnterpriseOne Orchestrator Studio
  • EnterpriseOne Notifications
  • Mobile app development
  • UX One personalizations
  • Lease Accounting
  • Joint Venture Management
  • Lowered cost of ownership
  • 64-bit enablement

Redesigned EnterpriseOne Orchestrator Studio

In Tools 9.2.4, the new Orchestrator Studio is simple, graphical, and intuitive. Specific new features provide:

  • Improved UX for technical and nontechnical users
  • A graphical glow that allows easier visibility to steps
  • Top-level access to all orchestration components
  • Ability to add, move, or delete steps with ease
  • Capacity to run orchestrations for testing within the same interface
  • Simplified management vis AIS Server with no more ADF server required

In addition, users can also associate orchestrations to grid columns in Tools 9.2.4. This enables additional process automation. Notifications can be sent for an individual grid row, and users can connect orchestrations to all grid rows if required.

Enterprise One Notifications

With new notifications, you can stay connected and act fast when needed. Specific features enhancements include:

  • Real-time updates on low inventory, shipment arrivals, and down equipment even when not signed in
  • Notifications delivered to subscribers through many methods
  • Capacity to work with EnterpriseOne data or external systems

Mobile App Development

Use Oracle technology to create custom applications. JD Edwards leverages the best of breed technology to rapidly build mobile applications that fit your business. Product designers are continuing to create sample applications and plugging into ecosystems with orchestrations to help customers see the many ways they might use mobile apps. Some ideas include adding digital assistants, using chatbots, or mimicking native capabilities from mobile phones.

Investment Area No. 2: User Experience

UX One

There are 52 UX One roles delivered in EnterpriseOne 9.2. UX One’s Alert, Analyze, Act design paradigm provides:

  • Alerts about the most important tasks
  • Graphical displays to provide intuitive insight
  • Easy drill-down to access underlying applications
  • A personalized user experience that is personalized to engage your business users

Personalization Tools

Users can manage user defined objects (UDOs) with personalization tools, including:

  • Query Manager
  • One View
  • CafeOne
  • Watchlists
  • Composed pages
  • Form Personalization
  • List view
  • Enterprise Search
  • Orchestrator Studio
  • Form Extension
  • Notifications

Investment Area No. 3: ERP

Lease Accounting

With JD Edwards Lease Accounting, users can meet global lease accounting requirements as a lessor or lessee. Key features include:

  • Lessee accounting for property and non-property leases
  • Lease terms change management
  • Simplified lease management
  • Multicurrency leads (November 2019)
  • Lessor accounting (FASB 13) for property leases – straight-line rent
  • Revenue recognition for lease management companies
  • Early lease termination (November 2019)

Joint Venture Management

Start using Joint Venture Management today to maintain partner division of interest, distribute costs and revenue, bill and pay partners, and provide operational and financial reports. This tool is already used by many in engineering and construction, oil and gas, real estate, agribusiness, and many other industries.

Users can learn to efficiently:

  • Track Costs and Revenue
  • Allocate Indirect Costs
  • Charge Overhead
  • Distribute Costs and Revenue
  • Manage Cash Calls
  • Bill and Pay Partners
  • Report Financials

Activity Rules for Manufacturing Work Orders

Benefits of activity rules for Manufacturing work orders include:

  • Forced adherence to an established process flow
  • Prevention of transactions that aren’t allowed based on status
  • Consistency with Maintenance Work Order, Sales Order, and Purchase Order processing

Key features include:

  • Manufacturing Constants control to turn on
  • Status changes are validated against activity rules
  • Work orders may also be locked and frozen

Manufacturing – Copy Bills of Material by Branch/Plant

As of November 2019, users can copy Bills of Material by branch/plant. You can copy Bills of Material from one branch to another and automatically copy Item/Branch and primary Item/Location records as required. This simplifies the addition of new manufacturing facilities.

Investment Area No. 4: Operational Simplification

Lowered Cost of Ownership

Lowering the total cost of ownership allows customers to focus on their business instead of worrying about ongoing costs. Recent cost highlights include:

  • Object Tracking and Usage
  • System Health Checks
  • UDO Management

Additional planned improvements include:

  • Enhanced personalization
  • Autonomous database
  • Elastic deployment

64-Bit Enablement

It’s time to future-proof your technology investments with 64-bit. Major benefits include:

  • Future proof your environments
  • Third-party providers are delivering only 64-bit components
  • Enables JD Edwards to deliver future product innovation
  • There is no impact on your business processes or business data
  • General performance improvements
  • 64-bit deployment server now available

JD Edwards on the Cloud

The JD Edwards has also made quite a few investments in the Cloud area. The goal is to give customers the choice and control to leverage their JD Edwards systems, which they have invested a lot in, for as long as it is satisfying the needs of their business. There are several practical paths to the Oracle Cloud that can help customers host JD Edwards in the Cloud and achieve a more digital business. Users can extend JD Edwards with Oracle SaaS applications for CX, ERP, EPM, SCM, and HCM and take advantage of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
